A couple of weeks ago I turned a tiny closet into a useable and functional space with the use of a few shelves and storage boxes voila! We now have a useable space!
How did I do it?
I was fed up of always having to fight trying to get into the closet. It was mainly used for hanging coats but then turned in to more of a dumping area with shoes, washing, cleaning products, dry washing and even a printer!
It was a very unpractical area of what should be an area for storage. One day I decided to re-design this unusable area and one thing led to another….
I pulled everything out into the kitchen. I gave everything a clean from skirting boards to walls to light fittings to the coats hung up. The floor had a good vac and wash. Already it was looking fresh, new and spacious.
I then looked at what was in there. Coats were hung up on a gorgeous coat hook that I bought from TK Max a while back, but it was just stood in the closet doing nothing. A simple wall mounted coat hook suddenly gave me space and allowed me to see what coats I had and arrange them in to summer, winter, casual and formal. Before I knew it I had a new coat wardrobe ๐ Always a winner!
I then put all the clean washing and ironing away where it belonged. My printer was re located to a free- standing cupboard in my spare room and was now useable!
I had a shoe organiser that I put together and stacked on top of an existing storage organiser. I could now see my shoes and have them on display. I went through my existing storage cupboard and filed away documents into different files that related to the house.
I was already feeling excited. It was all coming together. My unusable closet was now a useable storage area that cost me nothing but a few hours of my time and elbow grease ๐
That was it once I had completed one room I just couldn’t stop. I then moved into the kitchen but that’s for next month’s blog ๐
I hope this gives you a little motivation to have a go in your home. Give it a go! Once you start you won’t want to stop!
